Samurai Swords of Fame

Samurai swords have a life of their own, once cared for and attended over so many years. The duty of maintenance transforms the samurai sword into an extension of the warrior and a reflection of himself at his best: consideration, loyalty and refinement. Some swords have even gained a name for themselves throughout Nippon.

Below you will find the samurai swords which have taken on such fame that their very look and shine can be noticed from afar. The swords have a legend all their own, much of which is shrouded in mystery and known only to its owner, the samurai.

This sword is a nodachi; a two-handed blade roughly four to five feet long, usually used against cavalry and in large open spaces. This samurai's sword is custom fitted for its owner, most frequently used to execute the dreaded Tsumabegaeshi ('Swallow strike').
